Congrats to Amy, Elisabeth, Diane, Clenna and Joshua — winners of the Paco Rabanne fragrance. Enjoy your new scent!
Here it is: my first official post on The Beauty Girl. I’ve been Nicole’s intern since this summer and now that she’s busy with her new job as baby Rex’s mommy, I’m helping her stay afloat during this wonderful and busy time in her life. I’ll be reporting from my college dorm room with the scoop on beauty’s latest and greatest from oscillating thing-a-ma-jiggs to moisturizing what-cha-ma-call-its starting…now…
I love to wash my face—just one of the simple pleasures of my life. But getting cleanser crazy can turn a simple pleasure into a simple disaster. Think: flakiness, redness, dehydration, the works.
Cetaphil has been a long-time favorite, but there’s a new kid on my block who’s got my pores in love. Origins Clean Energy is God’s gift to the earth — especially if you have dry skin or live in a cold climate. It’s a hi-tech, hybrid formula of olive, sunflower, sesame and safflower oils. It’s not what you’re thinking—a thick, pore-clogging, residue-leaving, crude oil type of situation—it’s a silky fluid that turns into a frothy lather when it meets water. So, instead of feeling like you’ve rubbed grease on top of existing dirt and makeup, skin feels refreshed as the oil washes away.

One complaint: the packaging. The bottle has a wide opening, which makes it very hard to dispense the small amount of oil that’s needed. I recently discovered that the company makes a pump to replace the regular cap that comes on the bottle. It’s a few dollars, but well worth it for the extra product that ends up dumping out of the wide spout.
I’m a big supporter of a red lip. I’ve even done an event that was purely dedicated to red lipstick! The amount of confidence that oozed from all of the women after the bold color was applied to their mouths was palpable. Even if you’re adamant that a red lip isn’t for you, think again. There’s a texture and shade for everyone. Just watch!
Introducing my greatest accomplishment yet…

My little man has kept me busier than ever, so to help save my sanity during this time of sleepless nights, my go-to intern Cody has come to the rescue. Her first post is coming soon! P.S. I have to give a shout-out to Amanda Hein, who snapped the below maternity photo to commemorate this special time in our lives.
Liquid liners have unfairly gotten a bad reputation. You don’t have to be a Molly Ms. Makeup Maven to conquer a gorgeously liquid lined eye. Anyone can do it! Watch my video for my product picks and to find out how easy and versatile they are to use.

After a summer’s worth of sun damage, it’s the perfect time to fade dark spots, even skin tone and up your radiance factor. Check out my latest story — a skin brightener roundup — in the August issue of Allure magazine.

Every season there’s a gazillion and one fragrance launches. Some go under the radar and some become the new “it” scents that you see, er, inhale everywhere you go. A whole slew of fall sniffs have landed on my desk. Click through the gallery to check out the lineup:
Marc Jacobs Oh, Lola!
It’s a new take on Marc’s Lola–a cult-favorite ‘fume from a few seasons ago. Oh, Lola! is a flirty, youthful juice that’s light, citrusy and fruity. Oh! And the bottle has to be the cutest I’ve ever seen.
Coach Poppy Flower
Coach’s Poppy was an immediate fan favorite upon its release last year and has been remixed into Poppy Flower, which is much less sugary than the original. Poppy Flower has notes of water lily, rose and peony–uber feminine and romantic. Girly girls, rejoice.
C.O. Bigelow Elixir Gold
This scent from C.O. Bigelow is rich with notes of cedar, dark woods, vetiver and musk. Elixir Gold is technically a cologne, but its sexy aroma suits any woman, day or night. I put this in my unisex category and definitely think it works on an “experienced” scent-wearing female. If you appreciate the zest and spice of Jo Malone, you’ll love it.
Maison Martin Margiela (untitled)
If you frequent NYC’s The Lion or The Waverly Inn, this fragrance is beftting of you. Its nondescript yet mysterious name (untitled) is trendsetting without trying. Hence, its got a fresh, easy scent that smells like a whiff of crisp air. The main element, galbanum, is woody, green and floral. Although created for a woman, I have put (untitled) in my unisex category as well. The woodsy-ness and natural notes smell sophisticated and clean on a man.
Burberry Body
It’s the first fully integrated fragrance launch across all platforms of the Burberry Brand (Brit, London, Prorsum). Body is mature, perhaps for our mothers, with a slight powdery top note. The base is warm, musky and creamy with rosy floral heart notes. It’s a fancy, polished woman in a bottle. I’m thinkin’ ladies lunching at the Four Seasons.
Jimmy Choo Parfum
First things first: the bottle is gorgeous. Wouldn’t even care if it didn’t smell good ‘cause the bottle just looks that amazing on a perfume tray—but it does smell good! Jimmy Choo Parfum is ageless. Whether 18 or 58, it’s a scent for “all dolled up” kinds of nights with warm, sexy notes of sandalwood, candied orange and patchouli. Your stilettos are just begging for it.
Prada Candy
A new direction on the typically mature and powdery Prada fragrances, Candy is sassy, girly and sweet. The caramel, vanilla and honey notes reflect its namesake. It’s undeniably fun, alive and incredibly chic. The bottle is unique, but still recognizably Prada with a pink signature Saffiano leather embossed logo.
CHANEL N°19 POUDRÉ
The old adage, “If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it,” doesn’t always prove wise. The original CHANEL N°19 (named after Coco’s August 19th birthday) is a classic that women have been wearing and loving for years. It certainly is not broken, but it has been “fixed,” and it’s lovelier than ever. As the name suggests it has a powdery finish but still contains the same base as the original: Haitian Vetiver and Virginian Cedarwood. CHANEL N°19 POUDRÉ is soft and smooth, a welcome change from a timeless classic.
