A sand-free beach day?

Sand GoneAfter a visit to the sea, it seems that the entire beach manages to make it back home with us. In the mudroom, in the showers, between the sheets—you’d think a sandstorm swept through the place.

Sand has a way of clinging to ocean-drenched skin. No matter how vigorously you towel dry, it manages to hide in every nook and cranny—between fingers and toes, nuzzled into hair follicles, on the backs of knees and, uh, in our beach bums.

I recently brought a new product called Sand Gone on vacation with me. It’s a flour-y like powder made from vegetable and plant starches that works to release stubborn sand from skin. (If you’re into coconut, you’ll love the yummy scent). I brushed the powder puff between my toes after walking along the shoreline and found that it cleaned up my little piggies in a cinch.

However, I think it’s suited for the more serious, down and dirty beachgoer on a summer day-trip. A towel would have sufficed for just dusting off my feet, but for all the little tots that frolic in the sand all day—nuh uh. Eight hours of burying each other in the sand, building sand castles and boogy boarding racks up some serious sand mileage. It’s a beach day staple for mothers and their sand-clad kiddies. I’m keeping it in my beach tote for when my little one arrives.

The Beauty Girl Giveaway: Blinc mascara

Blinc mascara We all have our favorite mascara. But, whenever the question comes up about finding one that won’t irritate sensitive eyes, smear if you rub them, or dry out your lashes, there’s one that top makeup artists always have on the top of their lists — Blinc. It’s an industry favorite, but most people don’t know about it. So I’m excited to give 3 people the chance to win one of their own.

The mascara goes on like any other and lengthens lashes to give them a nice, clean look. What’s so unique about it? The answer is clear when it’s time to come off. All it takes is a bit of warm water and gentle pressure on lashes, and the mascara literally slides off. Do it over your sink because there’s fallout — tiny black caccoon-like remnants. That’s because the formula was made to not simply coat lashes but rather form water-resistant “tubes” that act like a shield so no flaking, clumping or running can occur.

Best Frizz Fighters Plus A Hair Product Giveaway

A lot of questions have been coming in about how to deal with frizzy hair. It’s a battle we fight every humid summer. Along with the tried-and-true favorites, there are some new taming products on the market that go beyond your basic smoothing serum. Here are some suggestions for controlling both long and short manes. Plus, 3 lucky readers have the chance to win Avon’s frizz fighter. See below details to enter to win this giveaway!

Avon Lotus ShieldMy Aunt Karyn was a fan of professional straightening treatments because they really did stamp out her chronic frizz. However, the controversy surrounding the safety of the chemicals in those formulas put the kibosh on her salon visits, and she employed me to find her an alternative. I gave her Avon Advance Techniques Frizz Control Lotus Shield Anti-Frizz Treatment. It’s an at-home product that’s applied to towel-dired hair from root to tip. (All you need is a pea-size amount). It didn’t eliminate her static for months like the pro service, but it did straighten her hair for up to three washes, which is more than your average anti-frizz styling serum can do. And, the more you use the formula, the better it works. Scroll down to find out how to win a free bottle!

John Frieda Frizz-EaseAnother souped up frizz-fighter is John Frieda Frizz-Ease 3-Day Straight Semi-Permanent Styling Spray. It claims to rival salon keratin treatments by keeping hair sleek for three days or until your next shampoo (note: to keep strands from looking dull or dehydrated, you should only shampoo a couple of times per week). To use, spray it on damp hair, blow dry hair straight and finish with a flat iron to really seal in the product. Frizz-Ease is the original when it comes to attacking flyaways, and this latest innovation doesn’t disappoint.

Garnier Blow Dry PerfectorIf three days of smooth hair doesn’t cut it, Garnier Fructis Style Sleek & Shine Blow Dry Perfector is a two-step kit that claims to iron out the kinks for an impressive seven shampoos. No news yet on how it measures up, but the bold promise is worth the tease.

BG Tips To Fighting Frizz

  • If you’ve got a pixie, bob or other short hairstyle, this one’s for you: You’ve probably noticed that regular size flat irons can be tricky to maneuver around short pieces of hair. Make your life easier with a mini flat iron. Besides being convenient for travel, the smaller hot tool gives you more leverage to get at the roots and put pesky strays in place.
  • If frizz is a regular offender, only detangle your hair in the shower with a wide-tooth comb. Then, pat dry when you get out. Rubbing strands dry with a towel roughs up the cuticle, which leads to frizz, and brushing can cause wet hair to snap. Click here to see more of my frizz-fighting tips in Allure magazine.

GIVEAWAY: To enter to win Avon’s Anti-Frizz Treatment, comment on this post, follow me on twitter (twitter.com/NPTheBeautyGirl) and RT this message. 3 winners will be chosen at random. Good luck!

    Amazing Fragrance Find

Eau De Nous Perfume Here’s a scent to know about. And I’m not saying this just because it has a huge celebrity following (Demi Moore, Mila Kunis and Hayden Panettiere all own fragrances from the line) or because it’s really affordable. A 3.8 oz full-size bottle is $35 and the travel size (shown below), which I prefer because it has a no-spill roller ball applicator, is only $12.

Eau De Nous travel size fragrance

Eau De Nous isn’t over-thought or forced. It’s a series of simple, lovely aromas made by two sisters, Daya and Vally Fernandez, who created a series of scents reminiscent of their childhood. There are 4 in all: Gardenian Gift, which has notes of jasmine, orange and cloves; Bebe Breeze, a mix of rich floral tones like roses and lilies; Citrus Charm, a blend of mandarin and grapefruit essences; and Jasmine Joy, a marriage of honeysuckle, sandalwood and jasmine oil.

The perfumes are really wearable and casual enough for everyday. For summer I’m into Gardenian Gift. It’s quiet, floral, and fresh – just what summer should be.

Product Of The Week: Revision Skincare Intellishade SPF 45 Matte Tinted Moisturizer

Revision Tinted MoisturizerWalk down any beauty aisle, and you’ll see there’s a separate product to fix every single one of our skin complaints. You could spend twenty minutes just treating your face alone! The only one with that kind of time is my dog.

It’s obvious I’m a softy for effective multi-taskers, so I had to mention this workhorse of a moisturizer. Revision Skincare’s Intellishade SPF 45 Matte is a tinted moisturizer that also evens skintone, provides SPF protection with Titanium and Zinc (click here to find out my other favorite sunscreen picks and to learn about the new rules the FDA passed regarding these products) and contains ingredients that help to reduce the appearance of pores and wrinkles.

P.S. If this brand isn’t ringing a bell, it’s because it’s usually sold at dermatologist and plastic surgeon offices and medical spas. Another unique feature I really like is that the formula comes in one shade. No more figuring out if the hue is too yellow or light for your skin tone. This is a one-size-fits-all deal, and it worked on my fair complexion. The color that came out of the tube is darker than any foundation I’ve ever applied, but as soon as I rubbed it in, it blended beautifully. I’m definitely a fan of this for anyone with fair to beige skintones, but I wonder if this single shade works just as well on people with deeper complexions. If anyone decides to give it a try, I’d love to hear how it goes.
